The construction of a new 3.5 km runway and related aerodrome infrastructure at Kutaisi David the Builder International Airport is in an active phase. For the first time in the history of independent Georgia, a new international-standard runway together with its aerodrome infrastructure is being built in the country.
Excavation works are underway, alongside the installation of the artificial pavement. Runway construction works are spread across 3,620 meters, where the current stage involves the delivery of inert materials, foundation installation, and pavement laying.
According to United Airports of Georgia, in parallel, foundation works for a taxiway and the installation of cement-concrete pavement at the aircraft parking apron are in progress. In addition, new engineering and irrigation facilities are being arranged across an area of approximately 17 km in total.
The total project cost amounts to 240 million GEL. Upon completion of the new runway and its related aerodrome infrastructure, Kutaisi International Airport will be able to receive and serve the world’s largest aircraft.
The project is being implemented by construction company Anagi. Once completed, Kutaisi International Airport will become the first aerodrome in Georgia with an F code designation, allowing unrestricted service for large-size (F category) aircrafts.
